Autism is a developmental disorder that affects the brain’s normal development of social and communication skills. The prevalence of Autism is properly classified as an epidemic, and a recent study revealed 1 in 56 children have some form of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The lifetime incremental cost of education, treatment and care of a person with autism is $3.2 million. Clearly this is a tremendous additional cost on families and on communities...unless we prioritize finding innovative approaches to working with children with Autism.
This year marks our 10th annual FOX FAMILY RIDE FOR AUTISM.
FFR was a dream of Mike Fox. Mike had an idea, back in 2014, to put together a small poker run for some local friends and see if we could raise some money to help out kids with Autism in the Parkway School District. Little did we know that the "little poker run" would grow into something much bigger than we all could have imagined. The love he had for his nephew, who was diagnosed with Autism at age of 3, showed as he continued to push to make the event bigger and bigger. Unfortunately, we lost Mike to a motorcycle accident in 2017, but with the support from our community we have been able to continue his vision!
Over the last 9 years, the FOX FAMILY RIDE FOR AUTISM has raised over $100,000.00 allowing us to gift around 250 IPads, 50+ AAC Apps and host numerous training sessions around Mercer County and surrounding areas.
We continue to partner with iTaalk (Interactive Technologies assisting Autistic Little Kids).
